It had been 5 years since I was on the river last. I was aching to get back there. The river is a place that is always going to feel like home to me. Although I did get to see a couple of good friends while I was there, that was not the real reason I had to go. I needed to feel that cool water against my skin, I needed the adrenaline, I needed to be reminded of who I am. Sometimes I feel like my spirit lives in that water, and I guess I just needed a refill. I ran three trips. The first one I was so nervous, but it went great even though the river was running at twice the normal water level. There were people swimming all over the place from the very beginning. Thankfully none of those swimmers were mine. I had such a great time, it was like I had never been away. I knew exactly where I needed my raft to be, where every rock was. I had such a good time, but my body is definitely out of shape. I was sore for four days, but it was worth it. I love the river in the fall.
I said in my heart, "I am sick of four walls and a ceiling. I have need of the sky. I have business with the grass." -Richard Hovey
A moody child and wildly wise
Pursued the game with joyful eyes,
Which chose, like meteors, their way,
and rived the dark with private ray
They overleapt the horizon's edge,
Searched with Apollos privilege;
Through man, and woman, and sea, and star.
Saw the dancer of nature forward far,
Through worlds, and races, and terms, and times
Saw a musical order, and pairing rhymes.

Kiah's Birthday Party
On May 10th we drove to Chattanooga for our friends' babies first birthday party. Emerson had a great time. They had a baby pool and a slip and slide. Our other friend David was there with his twins. Daniel and Olivia played with Emerson in the baby pool. I think Emerson really liked having kids his size to play with.

Chugga Chugga Choo Choo
Well, I have resurfaced. It has been a long time.
Emerson has recently found a love for trains. Choo Choo is his favorite word. That and he likes to quack like a duck. Todd and I took Emerson to see this train caboose. It is parked in Clemson University's botanical garden.

So glad you had a good time, I hope you make a point to make it back there soon. And we will for sure take the kids when they are big enough - even if Todd and Dave won't go with us :) Although I think Dave would try it once, not sure he would like it, but I am sure he would try it.
So glad you got a chance to go recharge your mommy batteries! That is so cool they let you run some trips. Nice to lose (or find?) yourself for a few days!
